My mom, Rachel Kyron is the inspiration for this piece depicting a tree made of pure metal and imbedded in concrete. I have seen her endure many hurricanes and still stand tall, overcoming every challenge. When I proposed this site-specific work, I knew that it needed to withstand a Louisiana hurricane to be a permanent part of the museum which made me think of my mother.
"Hurricane Strong" is a sculpture by artist Ky Beaux that is permanently installed in the Alexandria Museum of Art's parking lot. The sculpture is made from cement, aluminum, and glass, and measures 12 ft by 24 ft
